Course Descriptions*
Physical Education I promotes physical fitness through total body movement. Students will be provided multiple opportunities for individual physical development in the areas of strength, flexibility, coordination, endurance, balance, agility, range of motion and power. Students will gain knowledge in proper exercise techniques and practices, cooperation, good nutritional habits, basic muscle anatomy and elementary cardiovascular physiology in preparation for performance on the Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment and for application in their chosen trade/technology.
Physical Education II expands upon physical fitness concepts taught in Physical Education I and addresses the effects of physical activity on dynamic health and mechanics of body movement as it relates to everyday activities including those needed for their chosen trade/technology.
Physical Education III provides opportunities for students to develop the knowledge and skills related to safe participation in a variety of physical activities, demonstrate fair play behaviors and attitudes and acquire and apply leadership skills. Students will apply their knowledge of healthful living practices and fundamental movement skills learned throughout Physical Education I and II to develop a personal fitness plan to meet their individual health needs as well as the physical needs necessary to be successful in their chosen trade/technology.
Physical Education IV is designed to deepen students’ understanding of well-developed movement, knowledge and skills required to live a healthy, active life and meet the health-related physical fitness demands of their chosen trade/technology.
