Student Activities and Clubs

It’s important to give students a chance to interact outside of the classroom and extracurricular activities and organizations are a great way to do that. W.F. Kaynor Technical High School has a wide range of options including everything from student council and National Honor Society to Drama Club.

The Kaynor Tech Drama Club is a small but active group. We put on one or two productions per year including musicals, plays and talent shows. We meet after school and during club periods, where we learn acting technique and theater essentials.

The drama program has been in existence for 10 years. At that time, we had an auditorium with a stage and we would perform plays there. When construction started on the new building, we took our show on the road, performing at the Mattatuck Museum. The following year, we performed in our new gym, but found that the acoustics were not good for musical performances. That’s when we decided to build our own stage, which can be assembled right in the atrium, creating an intimate theater right in the middle of the school. Through fundraising and donations, we have also been able to acquire our own microphones and lights.

The National Honor Society is an organization promoting recognition for students with outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership and service.

To be considered, students must be juniors or seniors who have maintained an overall 89.5 or higher grade average for all their academic and trade subjects following the first marking period of the school year. Once selected as a member, participation in the organization will include many leadership and service projects that benefit both the school community and the community at large.
