2 SkillsUSA students run for state office
March 27, 2017
On March 22, Jamaris Perez and Suleymar Dominguez attended the SkillsUSA House of Delegates at Vinal Tech and campaigned to join next year’s SkillsUSA State Executive Council. They delivered a speech, campaigned, and answered problematic questions, such as “If you were a fruit or a vegetable, which one would you be and why?” Campaigning involved shaking a lot of hands and giving out special gifts to the seventy-five students who would decide their fate.
Each school brings five voting delegates, who, at the end of the proceedings, vote for seven officers. Our five voting delegates were senior Kelsi Weed and four freshmen: Mohammad Amil, Karime Aybar, Quentin Collins, and Shamaray Wilson. The meeting was run by Executive Council President, senior Justin Fortin, and Executive Council Secretary, senior Ally Butkus, along with one other outgoing officer. SkillsUSA State Officers work closely with the State Director, Heidi Griffen, and her staff to run all of the conferences and competitions that are offered each year.
Did Jamaris or Suleymar win? We won’t know until the Ceremony at the SkillsUSA State Competition next Friday. Stay tuned!
